Butterfly Inspired

I was on a hunt...the other day, for some Gone With the Wind inspired gowns, and while I couldn't find anything that really grabbed my attention...in THAT direction (if you know if a place....please feel free to share!).... I did come across something that made me stop, followed by jaw drop.

You see, my immediate reaction was - I have SEEN this before. Now I am not talking SL content theft. I am talking.... I can picture the magazine cover, and that very gown....RL. It did come out 10 years before I was born admittedly, but all the same, I remembered. Sooooo I started hunting the internet... and when I was just about to give up, I came across the image, on the bed bath and beyond website...of all places! LOL

So...have a look for yourself... The SL gown is called Azazello, and it comes from Luxury by Vindi Vindaloo. I tried to get a hold of Vindi, but I wasn't able to, from what her assistant says, she is extremely busy RL. But surely she must have been inspired by this gown.... don't you agree?

I am not sure who the RL designer is....does anyone know? The Couture cover is October 1968. AND, FYI...Hair is ETD, and Shoes are Armidi.... (sorry...feeling lazy heheehee)

I had no idea that the dress had showed up in a fashion magazine. It's gorgeous and so is your picture :)

Aww, thanks Arianna! It was pure luck finding that cover...wish I could have found a better shot!

Butterfly dress by Luly Yang

Whimsy... I saw a few sites with it featured by Luly Yang. I was confused by the date on the magazine, because Luly didn't start designing til 2000. Now I wonder if the magazine cover is not correct?? Maybe it was fabricated? LOL.... I have NO idea.

I am still hunting around it maybe a case of an artist drew the gown for the cover but no one actually made the dress and Vindi and Luly both were inspired by it to create it in both worlds.

and for some reason that skirt on the dress to me says more 1958. I think it was totally fabricated, and I can't even find the magazine lol.

Luly Yang has tons of stuff like this! Lover her! FYI, MyCloset.com (that site backed by the executive producers of Project Runway) is featuring her next week.

I am the model in the picture. My name is Heather. I am from Seattle. This is a Luly Yang dress. The wall art was indeed made by an artist. I love this picture also so thanks for showing love.

Hello. Luly Yang is doing the dress now but was she the original designer of the dress on the cover of October 1968 issue of Couture magazine ?
thanks. Phil

What Phil said... The ORIGINAL Monarch Butterfly Dress on the Cover of Couture Magazine, October 1968.. ?? Yet the claim to it's fame is by Luly Yang who did not even start drawing until mid-70s. WHO did the ORIGINAL dress??

The magazine cover is FAKED, and not very well.

The model is much too skinny, and her "hooker heels", hair, make-up, and pose are all from the 2000s. They are not period-correct for the 1960s. And the style of the dress is more like something from the 1950s or 1980s.

Also, there has never been a magazine called "Couture".
